| Stofer Images, your
video production experts in Victoria BC Canada. What can we do for you today? |

| Let's take those old shoe boxes of photos, trays of slides, old 8mm film and family video and bring them to life! Perhaps you have seen Life and Times or Biography on TV. Now you can tell your own story. Christmas, Birthdays, Graduations and Anniversaries are perfect opportunities to create a special gift or keepsake for those you love. Where do you start? We can help you by offering the following tips for planning your video presentation, on either videotape or DVD. You'll be amazed at the results. | ||
| First of
all you need to have a goal or purpose for the project. For example, it's
your wife's 40th birthday coming up and you want to tell her life story
from birth to the present day. We can select from, and copy all of the material
you have; family albums, slide trays, boxes of photos, scrap-books etc. As a rule we advise customers to start with photos as there is usually more of these. Organize them in the order you want them displayed -usually chronological. If you have slides, do the same with them. Next you want to number the photos and the slides. Use a ball point pen to mark the number on the back 1, 2, 3, etc. You can keep the slides and photos in separate groups once they are numbered as we scan them separately anyway. Want to add some film or video clips? If possible watch the film or video, take note of the counter time for the start and stop point and write a short description of the scene on a card. Take the card and place it between the photos and number the card say 14a if it was placed between picture 14 and 15. Titles and captions - same thing - write the wording carefully on the card and insert the card in the appropriate spot. Some rules of thumb The average time a photo is usually shown is 6 seconds so the following table may help in your planning. 50 images = 5 minutes 100 images = 10 minutes 150 images = 15 minutes 200 images = 20 minutes Your average piece of music is 3 minutes so you will need to select 4 songs for a 10 minute presentation or have us pick the soundtracks for you. Close ups of people reproduce the best. Horizontal images are more suitable than vertical. With vertical images we will either crop the most important part of the photo to a horizontal view or pan the image from top to bottom or bottom to top.
